WASHINGTON— United States Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) recently appeared on The Evening Edit on Fox Business to address the issue of Democrats blocking his proposed amendment to exclude illegal immigrants from the census count, impacting the allocation of congressional seats and electoral votes.

During the discussion, Hagerty emphasized the motives behind his amendment, stating, "The Democrats are pursuing this illegal migration process for sheer power." He highlighted the significance of ensuring that only legal citizens are considered in the allocation of congressional districts and electoral votes, pointing out the disproportionate influence of illegal migrants on certain states' voting power.

Referring to the Senate Democrats' stance on the issue, Hagerty pointed out, "The Democrats proved it on Friday night when every one of them voted against limiting the number of congressional seats and electoral votes to only being represented by those who are allowed to vote; that is U.S. citizens."

Expressing his concerns about the implications of including illegal immigrants in the census count, Hagerty remarked, "It’s diluting votes in states like mine in Tennessee where we don’t have that many illegal migrants. What it’s doing is it’s diluting us in favor of California, Illinois, and New York. That’s inherently unfair; it’s un-American."

Hagerty's amendment aimed to restrict the counting of illegal migrants in the census for the purpose of allocating congressional and electoral power, emphasizing the importance of upholding the principle of representation based on citizenship status.

The debate surrounding the inclusion of illegal immigrants in the census count continues to be a point of contention between political parties, with Hagerty advocating for a more stringent approach to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
