Ascension Saint Thomas and Legacy Primary Care announced on May 15 plans to build a new integrated medical campus in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, aimed at expanding access to emergency and outpatient care for the growing community.

The project is designed to address increased demand for healthcare services as Mt. Juliet’s population has grown by more than 86 percent since 2010. The planned development will feature a 24/7 freestanding emergency department operated by Ascension Saint Thomas, co-located with Legacy Primary Care, a division of Summit Medical Group.

Ascension Saint Thomas will invest $23 million in the construction of the emergency facility, while Legacy Primary Care will move its practice to the site at Legacy Pointe @ Golden Bear near Interstate 40 at Exit 229. The new campus aims to create a comprehensive medical destination that includes specialty services such as Tennessee Oncology, Howell Allen Clinic, Ascension Saint Thomas Heart, and Ascension Saint Thomas Gastroenterology.

“As Mt. Juliet continues to see historic growth, this new health campus with our physician partners and 24/7 emergency department will provide the community a new option for expanded access to high-quality, lifesaving care,” said Fahad Tahir, president and CEO of Ascension Saint Thomas. “By co-locating emergency care alongside Legacy Primary Care and the established specialty healthcare hub at Legacy Pointe, we are offering a coordinated model that is fully integrated into the Ascension Saint Thomas network our communities trust.”

Dr. Chad Kurzynske of Legacy Primary Care said: “By relocating our practice to this growing medical campus, we are improving the patient experience and ensuring that the families we serve have a seamless destination for their health, ranging from routine wellness visits to urgent, high-acuity care.”

The facility is expected to create about 35 professional healthcare jobs once operational. Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto said: “As more families choose to call Mt. Juliet and Wilson County home, access to high-quality healthcare services becomes increasingly important. This project strengthens the healthcare infrastructure in one of our fastest-growing corridors and supports the long-term needs of our residents.”

Pending state approval through a Certificate of Need application filed with the Tennessee Health Facilities Commission, design and construction phases will begin with continued coordination among project partners.
