Belmont baseball lost to Tennessee by a score of 11-1 on May 12 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville.

The game drew a crowd of 6,244 fans and was played against one of the top college baseball programs. Belmont kept the contest close for much of the night, trailing just 5-1 going into the eighth inning before Tennessee pulled away with a late surge.

Charlie Davis led Belmont’s offense, going 1-for-4 and scoring the team’s only run. Landon Godsey hit a double, while Brady Holbrook, Jake Maddox, and Brody Langlotz also recorded hits. Starting pitcher Cole Kenyon allowed two runs over 2.2 innings and worked around early baserunners. The Bruins turned an early double play to prevent a Tennessee scoring opportunity in the first inning.

Tennessee scored first with Levi Clark’s two-run home run in the second inning. Belmont responded in the fourth when Davis singled and later scored on Cavan McMeans’ sacrifice fly. The Bruins had another chance to score in the sixth after Langlotz singled and Godsey doubled but were unable to capitalize further.

Tennessee extended its lead with three solo home runs in the fifth inning from Jay Abernathy, Garrett Wright, and Henry Ford. Belmont’s bullpen held Tennessee scoreless through two innings before Tennessee broke open for six runs in the eighth on four hits, a walk, two errors, including home runs by Trent Grindlinger and Hunter High as well as a two-run single from Manny Marin.

Tennessee finished with twelve hits—six of them home runs—while Belmont had five hits across seven pitchers used during this midweek matchup.

Belmont will return to Missouri Valley Conference play for its final regular season series against Indiana State Sycamores this weekend.
