Belmont lost a close game to UT Martin by a score of 9-8 on Apr. 22, following a dramatic ninth-inning comeback that ultimately fell short at Skyhawk Field.

The matchup featured several momentum shifts and was decided in the final inning, with both teams trading leads throughout the night. The result leaves Belmont looking for answers after coming up just shy despite strong offensive performances.

UT Martin took an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning and another in the second, helped by defensive errors from Belmont. In response, Charlie Davis and Kyle Coleman reached base for Belmont before Landon Godsey hit a three-run home run to tie the game at 3-3 in the third inning. However, UT Martin regained control with runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, including a crucial two-run homer and an RBI single that stretched their advantage to 7-3.

Belmont narrowed the gap in the seventh with an RBI double from Davis and a sacrifice fly from Godsey but still trailed entering the ninth. Nate Webb began Belmont’s final rally with a leadoff home run, followed by more hits from Davis and Godsey that tied it at 8-8. Despite this effort, UT Martin loaded the bases with two outs in their half of the ninth before winning on a hit-by-pitch.

Charlie Davis led Belmont offensively with four hits and two RBIs while Landon Godsey drove in five runs over multiple key moments late in the contest. Nate Webb also contributed with his own home run as part of Belmont’s total of twelve hits; however, three defensive errors hurt their chances against UT Martin’s fifteen-hit output.
