Belmont lost its series finale against Valparaiso, falling 5-2 at Emory G. Bauer Field on April 26.
The game was closely contested, with Belmont taking an early lead before Valparaiso responded with a strong middle-inning performance. The result leaves Belmont just below .500 in conference play as the team looks ahead to the remainder of the season.
Belmont scored first in the fourth inning when Nate Webb recorded one of his three hits and Brody Langlotz hit a two-run home run, his third of the season, giving Belmont a 2-0 advantage. However, Valparaiso answered by scoring single runs in both the second and third innings to tie the game. In the fourth inning, Valparaiso capitalized on opportunities against Belmont’s bullpen to score two more runs and take a lead they would not relinquish.
Despite finishing with seven hits—including three from Webb and two from Landon Godsey—Belmont struggled to convert chances into runs, leaving eight runners stranded and failing to score over the final five innings. Five pitchers took the mound for Belmont; Lake Morris started and allowed two runs over just more than three innings while Owen Marsh was charged with the loss after surrendering two runs in relief. Krish Gandhi and Brooks McDonnough contributed out of the bullpen but could not prevent an insurance run by Valparaiso in the eighth inning.
Valparaiso collected ten hits during the game and was led offensively by Case Sullivan’s three runs batted in. The Beacons’ pitching limited Belmont hitters late in the contest, allowing only one hit over the last three innings.
As conference play continues, Belmont will look for improvements at key moments as it seeks to climb back above .500.
