Belmont University announced on May 17 that two of its baseball players, Ridge Harvey and Shane Duke, received Missouri Valley Conference weekly honors following their performances against Indiana State. Harvey was named Pitcher of the Week, while Duke earned Freshman of the Week recognition.

The awards highlight the impact both freshmen had during Belmont’s final regular season conference series. Harvey pitched five scoreless innings in a 5-2 win over Indiana State, allowing only two hits and striking out six batters. He limited Indiana State’s offense by surrendering no extra-base hits and just two walks across 74 pitches.

Duke also delivered a strong performance with five scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out six batters while issuing only one walk over 61 pitches. Both pitchers helped keep Indiana State from gaining momentum during their outings.

The university said that “Harvey kept one of the Missouri Valley Conference’s top offenses off balance from the opening inning and provided Belmont with a crucial performance in the final conference series of the regular season.” The announcement also stated that “the pair played a major role in Belmont’s strong weekend against Indiana State and highlighted the impact of Belmont’s freshman pitching staff entering postseason play.”

Belmont encouraged fans to follow its baseball program on social media for further updates.
