Belmont won against UT Martin in a baseball game on April 28, using strong offense and hitting five home runs to secure an 8-5 victory. The game was called after the sixth inning due to lightning.
The matchup featured several lead changes, but Belmont took control with two high-scoring innings. The team finished with 12 hits and contributions from multiple players throughout the lineup.
UT Martin scored first in the second inning after JT Popick singled and Eli Huebner hit an RBI double. Belmont quickly responded in the bottom of the inning when Michael Lareau hit a solo home run to tie the game. Charlie Davis then gave Belmont the lead with another homer, followed by Brady Holbrook’s two-run shot for a four-run inning.
UT Martin narrowed the gap in the third when TJ Dunsford hit a two-run homer. He later tied the game at four with his second home run of the day in the fifth inning. However, Belmont answered immediately as Mike Sprockett and Jake Maddox each hit solo homers, sparking another four-run frame that put them ahead for good.
Andrew Perry pitched three innings for Belmont, allowing only two runs and helping maintain their lead by inducing key ground balls and double plays. Offensively, Holbrook led with two hits and two RBIs while Sprockett, Maddox, Lareau, and Davis all contributed important hits or home runs.
With this win called early due to weather conditions, Belmont looks ahead to its upcoming weekend series against Bradley as playoff contention approaches.
