Belmont University’s baseball team lost 6-4 to Central Michigan on Saturday in Nashville. The Bruins, now with a record of 2-4, were unable to overcome errors and late scoring by the Chippewas, who improved to 4-2.

Central Michigan scored first in the opening inning. Belmont responded in the second when JD Whitworth singled and stole second base before Mike Sprockett brought him home with an RBI single. Landon Godsey gave Belmont a 3-1 lead with a two-out, two-RBI double.

The Chippewas tied the game in the fourth inning with a two-run home run and then took a 4-3 lead in the fifth. Pitchers Lake Morris and McKale Stevenson kept Belmont close, but two errors in the eighth allowed Central Michigan to increase their lead to 6-3.

In the ninth inning, Isaac VanderWoude walked and stole second base. Cavan McMeans hit an RBI double to cut Central Michigan’s lead to two runs. However, Central Michigan’s Stumpf ended Belmont’s rally with a strikeout for the save.
