Belmont University Men’s Track & Field will participate in the Bryan Clay Invitational from April 16 to 18, hosted by Azusa Pacific University, according to an announcement on Apr. 15.
The event is considered one of the leading national meets of the outdoor season and will feature seven Belmont runners competing in distance events. The Bruins are set to race three athletes in the 3000-meter steeplechase and four in the 5000-meter run. Currently, Belmont holds second, third, and fourth place on the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) top performances list for the steeplechase, with one runner trailing only six seconds behind a competitor from Drake University.
In addition to their strong showing in the steeplechase rankings, Belmont’s entrants in the 5000 meters also occupy several spots within MVC’s top ten performances this season. One athlete currently sits at number two in that event.
“Bryan Clay is an absolute amazing environment,” said Head Coach Jeff Langdon. “The weather is usually perfect for distance running. I think everyone on the trip is hoping for a big personal best. Should be a great meet.”
At last year’s Bryan Clay Invitational, a Belmont runner achieved a sub-9:10 time in the steeplechase and maintained his high rank within MVC standings. Other Bruins also recorded strong times during their respective heats at that meet.
Looking ahead, Belmont Men’s Track & Field plans to return to competition May 1-2 at the Outdoor Music City Challenge.
