On Sunday afternoon, the Belmont University men’s tennis team secured the doubles point against Ole Miss with a notable victory at the top doubles spot. The match took place at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center in Oxford, Mississippi. Despite their early success, Belmont ultimately fell to the undefeated Rebels, who improved their record to 12-0 with a 6-1 win over the Bruins.

Belmont’s No. 1 doubles team, consisting of a senior and junior player, defeated Ole Miss’ 18th-ranked pair of Isac Strömberg and Kai Milburn by a score of 7-5. This nationally ranked win followed another Belmont victory at No. 2 doubles, where a freshman and graduate student pair won 6-4 against Stefano D’Agostino and Pietro Pampanin from Ole Miss.

At No. 3 doubles, Belmont trailed Ole Miss’ Matthieu Chambonniere and Benjamin Martin 6-5 when the Bruins clinched the overall doubles point.

In singles play, Ole Miss swept all six matches. The Rebels won in straight sets at four positions: No. 1, No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles.

At No. 2 singles, Roi lost in two sets to Chambonniere after dropping a first-set tiebreaker (7-4) and narrowly losing the second set (7-5).

Vedovelli was the only Belmont player to win a set in singles competition; he took the second set 6-2 against Pampanin after losing the first set 6-4 but fell short in the third set by another score of 6-4.

Looking ahead, Belmont will return to action on Friday evening when they host East Tennessee State University at Ensworth Tennis Center in Nashville (“Music City”). The match is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
