Belmont men’s track and field competes at Outdoor Music City Challenge

Belmont University Men’s Track and Field recorded several strong performances at the Outdoor Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt University, according to a May 2 announcement.

The event was notable for a new school record in the 3000-meter run. One Belmont distance runner finished first with a time of 8:09.67, surpassing his own previous school record by thirteen seconds, which had been set during last season’s Outdoor Music City Challenge.

In other results, another athlete placed third in the steeplechase with a time of 9:11.03. The team also saw two Bruins achieve personal bests in the 1500 meters; one junior ran a time of 3:54.71 while a freshman posted a result of 3:57.51.

Two seniors achieved personal records in the late-night 5000-meter race, finishing with times of 14:39.19 and 14:41.22 respectively. In Saturday morning’s field events, one competitor won the high jump at a height of 2.05 meters and another finished second in pole vault with a jump of five meters.

On the track, an athlete won his heat in the 400 meters with a new personal best of 49.24 seconds while another set his own best mark in the 400-meter hurdles at 54.58 seconds to place eighth overall. In an all-Belmont heat for the men’s eight hundred meters, one runner achieved a personal record by running it in one minute and fifty-six point zero nine seconds.

The relay team rounded out competition by placing fifth overall with their finish time of three minutes nineteen point forty-four seconds.

Belmont is scheduled to compete next at the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships from May sixteen through eighteen.
