Belmont University’s baseball team split a doubleheader against Central Michigan on Friday at E.S. Rose Park in Nashville. The Bruins lost the first game 9-3 but responded with a 5-2 win in the second matchup.

In the opening game, Belmont was unable to recover from a six-run fourth inning by Central Michigan. Although the Bruins recorded more hits than their opponent, finishing with 13 compared to Central Michigan’s nine, they were not able to capitalize with runners on base.

Belmont started scoring in the fifth inning when McMeans doubled and later scored on a single by Morgan. Davis contributed an RBI single during the same frame, narrowing the deficit. In the seventh inning, K. Coleman came off the bench as a pinch-hitter and scored after hitting a single.

Key performers for Belmont in Game 1 included Charlie Davis, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI; Cavan McMeans, who finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run; and K. Coleman, who was 1-for-1 with a run scored.

The Bruins turned things around in Game 2, coming back from a two-run deficit. A strong pitching performance from Tate Marland helped set up the victory. The turning point came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Landon Godsey hit a double to left field that gave Belmont its first lead of the game after Charlie Davis reached base.

Belmont added another run in the seventh inning when Davis singled and was driven home by Brody Langlotz. Marland pitched six innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out three batters to earn the win. Ridge Harvey closed out the game with three scoreless innings for his first save of the season.

Notable contributors in Game 2 included Jake Maddox (2-for-4 with a double and an RBI), Charlie Davis (1-for-3 with a run and walk), and pitcher Tate Marland (six innings pitched, three strikeouts).

With these results, Belmont moves to 2-4 for the season while Central Michigan stands at 4-2.
