Belmont University Track and Field competed at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta on April 18, recording several personal bests as the team prepares for upcoming conference championships.
The event was marked by strong performances despite challenging weather conditions, with temperatures reaching 85 degrees. Belmont athletes achieved new personal records and gained valuable experience during the meet.
All three Belmont participants in the javelin throw finished among the top ten on Friday. In distance events, two Bruins set personal records in the 1500 meters, while Otto Richter placed sixth in the steeplechase with a new best time of 9:32.94. The women’s 5000 meters saw Belmont runners secure both first and second place.
On Saturday, a Bruin athlete posted a personal record of 56.48 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles, followed by another record-breaking performance of 2:18.46 in the 800 meters. Another team member also finished sixth in the high jump that afternoon.
“Overall, this was a solid meet for the team,” says Graduate Assistant Coach Jalen Tate. “We had some really good efforts and performances, but we can’t be satisfied. We’re trending upwards and so [we] have to be a little bit more intentional with the small details so we can go into conference and shock some people.”
The team will next compete May 1-2 at Vanderbilt’s Outdoor Music City Challenge.
