The Belmont University women’s tennis team lost 7-0 to the University of Illinois Chicago on April 11 at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex in Nashville. The Bruins, now holding a record of 2-16 overall and 1-4 in Missouri Valley Conference play, managed only two set wins against the Flames, who improved to 11-6 overall and remain undefeated in conference matches.

This match was significant as it pitted Belmont against the top team in their conference. Despite a strong start with Belmont’s top doubles pair defeating UIC’s Anais Brion and Edit Cosmo by a score of 6-2, UIC rallied back to win both remaining doubles matches. The decisive point came at No. 2 doubles where Joanne Hartono and Nia Cooper from UIC outlasted their Belmont opponents in a tiebreaker.

In singles competition, Webster provided Belmont with its only set victory by taking the first set against Cosmo before losing in three sets through a super tiebreaker. All other singles matches were won by UIC in straight sets. At No. 6 singles, Hamilton nearly forced another super tiebreak but ultimately lost after pushing Charlotte Deletioglu to a second-set tiebreaker.

Looking ahead, Belmont will close out its home season on Sunday morning when Valparaiso visits for senior day at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m., followed by recognition for graduating players Hamilton and Tapia-Cruz.
