Belmont women’s track and field competes in Music City Challenge

Belmont University Women’s Track and Field competed in the Outdoor Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt University, according to a May 2 announcement.

The event featured strong performances from several Belmont athletes. In the javelin throw, two team members placed second and fourth, maintaining their top positions in the Missouri Valley Conference. Another athlete achieved a personal best in the steeplechase with a time of 11:25.70.

The women’s distance team performed well in the 1500-meter race on Friday evening, with one runner placing ninth and setting a new personal record of 4:29.45. Another teammate also set a personal record at 4:33.44. During a late-night competition in the 5000 meters, another Belmont athlete finished eighth overall with a new best time of 16:30.63.

On Saturday morning, Carlota Salgado García took third place in the high jump after clearing 1.60 meters, while freshman marked seventh place in the hammer throw with a distance of 49.80 meters. The team also saw strong showings on the track; one runner set a new personal record of exactly 58 seconds flat in the 400 meters, while another placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.08.

Two Bruin women achieved career-best times during the 800-meter race—one running it in 2:15.18 and another finishing at 2:27.18.

Belmont is scheduled to return to action from May 16 to May 18 at the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships.
