Belmont University Women’s Track & Field competed at the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships, which concluded on May 18 at the Gibson Track & Field Complex in Terre Haute, Indiana.

The event was significant for Belmont as several athletes reached the podium and scored points for their team during two days of competition. The performances contributed to a seventh-place finish in the team standings with a total of 35 points. Indiana State won the overall conference team title.

Heptathlon athlete Carlota Salgado García led Belmont’s results. She performed consistently across all seven events, never placing below fifth. Salgado García set personal bests in both the 200-meter dash, where she finished second with a time of 25.74 seconds, and in the javelin throw, achieving a new personal record by four meters on her final attempt to secure first place in both that event and overall heptathlon competition. Her second-place finish in the concluding 800 meters secured her gold medal with a school record-breaking total of 5,011 points.

Another notable result came from Swarr, who earned silver in the javelin throw after holding first place until an impressive final throw from Northern Iowa’s Katy Stephens moved her into second position. Several other Bruins qualified for finals: Fouts placed eighth in the 1500-meter final; another athlete improved her time twice over two days to finish sixth in Sunday’s 100-meter hurdles final; one runner placed second in Saturday’s preliminary round of the 400-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 1:00.31; another Bruin achieved fifth place in Saturday night’s 10,000 meters before finishing seventh Sunday in the 5,000 meters.
