The Lipscomb Bisons softball team split their first two games against Bellarmine on Apr. 18, winning the second game 5-1 after dropping the opener 4-2.

The results marked a resilient showing for Lipscomb, who bounced back from an early setback to even the series. The day’s performance demonstrated both offensive and defensive adjustments by the Bisons as they continue conference play.

In game one, Lipscomb struggled to overcome a four-run deficit despite tallying six hits and drawing six walks. Macyn Kirby led with three hits and a run scored, while Presley Rader provided a key two-RBI double in the third inning to cut Bellarmine’s lead in half. The Bisons created scoring opportunities late but were unable to capitalize fully. Jesyne Espinal pitched 4.2 scoreless innings in relief, keeping her team within reach.

Game two saw Lipscomb take control early with an RBI double from Brenna Sherman in the first inning. After Bellarmine tied it up, Mallory Ogle’s RBI triple put Lipscomb ahead again in the fifth inning. The sixth brought further runs as Josephine Heuberger scored on an error and aggressive baserunning by Grace Cassarello and Briley Burns extended the lead to 5-1. Burns finished with two hits while Courtney Sauer pitched a complete game, allowing only two hits and one run over seven innings.

The return of Courtney Bauer bolstered Lipscomb’s pitching staff during game two, providing additional depth as conference competition continues.

Lipscomb will look to build on this momentum for upcoming matchups as they progress through their home series.
