U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn and U.S. Representative Mark Harris have introduced the National Education Association Charter Repeal Act. This legislation aims to revoke the congressional charter of the National Education Association (NEA), the largest teachers’ union in the United States.

Senator Blackburn stated, “Time and again, teachers’ unions have shown they’ll put their political agenda ahead of students’ needs.” She criticized the NEA for promoting what she described as “woke gender ideology, antisemitism, and left-wing propaganda.”

Representative Harris echoed these sentiments, saying, “Congress established the NEA in 1906 to support America’s teachers and strengthen our schools, but it has abandoned that mission in favor of a radical agenda.” He cited various actions by the NEA as evidence of its partisanship.

The proposed act would eliminate congressional authorization for the NEA and formally remove Congress’ endorsement of its operations. The bill has received endorsements from several organizations including Moms for Liberty and Heritage Action.

Tina Descovich, CEO of Moms for Liberty, expressed support for Congressman Harris’s efforts: “Moms For Liberty is incredibly thankful for Congressman Mark Harris, and his bold stand to remove the NEAs congressional charter.”
