Today, the Senate passed the Rescissions Act of 2025, a legislative package aimed at cutting $9 billion in government spending deemed wasteful. U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) released a statement following the passage of the bill, emphasizing its importance in addressing the national debt.
“The American people gave us a mandate to stop reckless spending and get our national debt under control,” said Senator Blackburn. She criticized previous expenditures on public media and foreign programs that she believes undermine American values. “The rescissions package that Senate Republicans just passed eliminates billions in wasteful spending, and it is an important step toward restoring fiscal sanity and economic security.”
The Rescissions Act targets various areas of spending, including funding for public media such as NPR and PBS, which Senator Blackburn claims promote left-wing ideology. The act also addresses foreign aid programs and international organizations like the World Health Organization and UN Population Fund.
Other projects targeted by the cuts include wind farms in Ukraine, gender diversity initiatives in Mexico’s street lighting industry, and electric buses in Rwanda.
Senator Blackburn has been vocal about her concerns over government spending practices and highlighted these issues through video content detailing what she considers unnecessary expenditures.
