Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) issued a statement in recognition of National Police Week. He acknowledged the dedication and bravery of law enforcement officers who risk their lives daily to protect communities across the nation.
“This week, I am honored to help welcome law enforcement officers from all over the country to our nation’s capital in observance of National Police Week,” Green stated. He highlighted the evolving threats to public safety and homeland security that officers face and recognized those who have fallen or been injured in the line of duty. “My prayers remain with these officers and their loved ones,” he added.
Green also addressed concerns raised by law enforcement regarding anti-police rhetoric and border issues affecting their mission and morale. He expressed optimism about new leadership in the White House and secure borders, which he believes will improve federal support for state and local law enforcement efforts.
“For many years, law enforcement warned this Committee that anti-police rhetoric and a historic border crisis hindered their mission and harmed force morale,” Green noted. “Now, with new leadership in the White House and borders that are once again secure, I look forward to turning the tide and continuing our work to ensure the federal government is a valuable partner for state and local law enforcement.”
He concluded by expressing gratitude for law enforcement personnel: “This week and every week, I am grateful to our men and women in law enforcement.”
