United States Senator Bill Hagerty introduced Charles “Charlie” Kushner, nominated by President Trump, to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to France and Monaco. Senator Hagerty, who is a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and a former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, presented Kushner in a nominations hearing.
Acknowledging Kushner’s background, Hagerty emphasized his connection and experience with Kushner and his family. “I have been fortunate to get to know Charlie, his wife Seryl and their wonderful family,” Hagerty stated, while noting the individual achievements of the Kushner children, who include Dara, Nicole, Josh, and Jared, as well as Jared’s spouse, Ivanka Trump.
Describing Kushner’s personal and professional journey, Hagerty highlighted, “Charlie truly embodies the ‘American Dream.'” As the son of Holocaust survivors who migrated to the United States during the 1940s, Kushner became a prominent real estate developer. Hagerty noted that Kushner is recognized as a “skilled and talented negotiator, a leader who treats his employees like family, and a respected philanthropist.”
Hagerty underscored Kushner’s qualifications for the ambassadorial position, asserting that Trump’s selection was based on “his business acumen and experience in tough negotiations,” complemented by Kushner’s patriotism and appreciation for the U.S.-France relationship. Hagerty remarked, “Charlie understands the unique and enduring bond between the United States and France—a bond rooted in shared history, democratic values, and mutual interests.”
Kushner aims to “advance U.S. national security interests by deepening the U.S.-France alliance” through defense collaboration and trade relations, according to Hagerty, who expressed confidence in Kushner’s dedication and ability to fulfill his ambassadorial duties effectively.
Hagerty concluded by expressing his eagerness to advance Kushner’s nomination, stating, “I look forward to his testimony today and to working with my colleagues on this committee to ensure his nomination moves forward as quickly as possible.”
