FOIA Request to Casa Loma College – Nashville Regarding Chinese National Students on May 14, 2025.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to Casa Loma College in Nashville seeking detailed information about students who are Chinese Nationals. The request, made under the Tennessee Open Records Act, aims to obtain records that could shed light on the enrollment and scholarship details of these students at the institution.

The request specifically asks for documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments of study. If individual names are protected by privacy laws, a total count of such students broken down by department is requested instead.

Additionally, the request seeks information on scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship. There is also a particular interest in identifying any scholarships associated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Furthermore, the request calls for any policies or procedures that outline how the university monitors its students, including those who are Chinese Nationals, to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information.

This inquiry is part of our broader effort at Nashville Standard and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy to ensure transparency and accountability within public institutions. As members of the media committed to disseminating vital information to the public, we believe access to these records is crucial for holding educational institutions accountable and providing transparency regarding international student affairs. We have requested a fee waiver given our role in reporting news that serves the public interest.
