FOIA Request to South College-Nashville Regarding Chinese National Students on May 14, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, we at the Nashville Standard have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to South College-Nashville. Our request seeks detailed information concerning the enrollment and scholarship status of Chinese National students at the institution.
The request specifically asks for documents or lists that detail all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their respective departments of study. In cases where student names are protected by privacy laws, we have requested a total count of such students broken down by department.
Additionally, we are seeking information about scholarships awarded to these students. This includes the amount each student receives and the source of these scholarships. We have also asked for details regarding any scholarships granted through affiliations with the Chinese Scholarship Council.
Furthermore, our inquiry extends to understanding how South College-Nashville monitors its students, including those who are Chinese Nationals, in order to protect the university’s intellectual property and other confidential information.
This request is made on behalf of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to investigating state and federal governmental agencies. As members of the media, we believe access to public records is crucial for holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to our readers. We have requested a fee waiver given our role in disseminating this important information.
We look forward to receiving a response from South College-Nashville and will continue to keep our audience informed as this story develops.
