FOIA Request to Tennessee State University Regarding Chinese National Students on May 14, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in governmental affairs, we at the Nashville Standard have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Tennessee State University. Our request seeks detailed information concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the university.
The request specifically asks for documents or lists that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. In cases where student names are protected by privacy laws, we have requested aggregated data showing the total number of such students and their distribution across different departments.
Additionally, we are seeking information on scholarships awarded to these students. This includes the amount of each scholarship received by Chinese National students and the source of these funds. We have also requested details about any scholarships linked to the Chinese Scholarship Council.
Furthermore, our inquiry extends to understanding how Tennessee State University monitors its students, including those who are Chinese Nationals, in order to safeguard the institution’s intellectual property and other confidential information.
This request is made in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting transparency through the use of Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. As members of the media, we believe access to public records is crucial for holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for our readers.
We look forward to receiving a timely response from Tennessee State University and will continue to update our audience as more information becomes available.
