FOIA Request to Trevecca Nazarene University Regarding Chinese National Students on May 14, 2025.
A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to Trevecca Nazarene University seeking detailed information about the university’s Chinese National students. As part of our commitment at the Nashville Standard to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we are requesting specific records under the Tennessee Open Records Act, §10-7-503 et seq., preferably in electronic format.
The request includes several key points:
1. We seek documents or lists that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments of study. If such information is protected, we request the total number of these students broken down by department.
2. We are also interested in documents or lists detailing scholarships received by these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship.
3. Additionally, we request information on any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council not covered in the previous point.
4. Lastly, we ask for any policies or procedures describing how the university monitors its students, including Chinese Nationals, to protect its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.
This request is made on behalf of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Missouri Corporation dedicated to assisting media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
