Tennessee State University reported on May 16 that its men’s and women’s track and field teams achieved multiple event titles, podium finishes, and All-Ohio Valley Conference performances at the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The results are significant for Tennessee State as they reflect one of the strongest team showings of their outdoor season. The Tigers’ success across several events highlights the team’s depth in both sprints and field competitions.

Junior Kylen Thorps won the men’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.46, while junior Brian Townsend finished second in 52.86, giving Tennessee State a one-two finish in that event. The men’s 4×400-meter relay team—composed of Devin Jones, Thorps, Caleb Joshway, and Joshua McClendon—secured gold with a first-place finish in 3:11.61 to close out the meet.

In sprint events, Joshway placed second in the men’s 100 meters with a time of 10.36 seconds. Freshman Jayden Guy finished seventh (10.67), and junior Damon Jackson took eighth (10.75). The men’s 4×100-meter relay team finished third overall at 40.74 seconds.

Other notable performances included sophomore Devin Jones earning silver in the men’s 800 meters (1:51.14) with senior Robert Hooper close behind for bronze (1:51.26). In field events, senior Christian White placed fourth in long jump (7.52m), while freshman Gabriel Deng was fourth in triple jump (14.63m). On the women’s side, senior Serenity Harry led her team by finishing sixth in the women’s 200 meters (24.49) and anchoring a sixth-place finish for the women’s relay squad.

Tennessee State said these results demonstrated strong performances across hurdles, relays, sprints, distance races, jumps, throws, and multi-events as they look ahead to postseason competition.
