Lipscomb women’s basketball falls short against North Alabama despite strong performance by Hope Counts

The Lipscomb University Women’s Basketball team lost to the University of North Alabama 68-63 on Saturday night at CB&S Bank Arena in Florence, Alabama. The Bisons’ record now stands at 9-18 overall and 6-10 in conference play, while North Alabama improved to 15-12 overall and 10-6 in the conference.

The game was closely contested from the start, with six ties and three lead changes in the first quarter. North Alabama led 16-14 after the opening period. In the second quarter, Lipscomb found success inside, scoring 16 of its 22 points in the paint and using an 11-0 run to take a five-point lead. By halftime, Lipscomb held a 36-31 advantage.

Early in the third quarter, Hope Counts extended Lipscomb’s lead to seven points with a second-chance basket. However, North Alabama responded and reduced their deficit to just one point late in the period.

In the final quarter, North Alabama took control by scoring the first five points. Hope Counts helped keep Lipscomb close with consecutive layups that gave her team a two-point lead with five minutes remaining. Molly Heard added another layup with under three minutes left to put Lipscomb ahead by one point, but North Alabama closed out the game by scoring the last five points for the win.

Hope Counts led all scorers with a career-high 19 points on efficient shooting (8-of-13), along with nine rebounds and five blocks. McKayla Miller contributed 16 points and eight rebounds, while Molly Heard finished with 15 points, six rebounds, and four steals.

Lipscomb will finish its regular season at home with two more games. The next contest is scheduled against Bellarmine on Wednesday night at Allen Arena.
