Lipscomb women’s tennis edged out by ETSU in close match

The Lipscomb University Women’s Tennis team narrowly lost to East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in a 4-3 match held Saturday at the ETSU Mini Dome in Johnson City, Tennessee. The defeat marks Lipscomb’s first loss of the season, moving their record to 3-1, while ETSU improves to 4-2.

ETSU secured the doubles point early with decisive wins at both the first and third flights, posting scores of 6-0 and 6-1. In singles play, ETSU extended its lead by winning on court four.

Lipscomb’s Sofiia Paladi improved her spring season record to 4-0 after defeating Ksenija Rage 6-4, 6-3 at the top singles position. Despite this win, ETSU claimed another victory on court two to move ahead 3-1.

Deborah Dominguez Collado helped keep Lipscomb in contention by overcoming an initial set loss against Julia Millan. Collado forced a third set after winning a tiebreaker and ultimately secured the point with a final score of 3-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4.

Serafima Bobrovnikova also contributed for Lipscomb with a straight-set win of 6-3, 7-6 (5). However, ETSU clinched the overall match by taking court six.

Looking ahead, Lipscomb will face No. 13 Vanderbilt on Friday. Vanderbilt reached the region final of last year’s NCAA Tournament. The match is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
