Former Memphis Grizzlies All-Star center Marc Gasol has been selected for induction into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026, according to a March 17 announcement from the organization. The Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Tennessee Lottery, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to sports in Tennessee.

Gasol is known for his role in shaping one of the most successful periods in Memphis basketball history. Brad Willis, Executive Director of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, said, “Marc Gasol helped define one of the most successful eras in Memphis basketball. His leadership, defensive excellence, and unique skill set made him one of the most respected centers in the NBA. His impact on the Memphis Grizzlies and the growth of professional basketball in Tennessee is undeniable, and we are proud to welcome him into the Class of 2026.”

During his time with the Grizzlies, Gasol was a central figure in what became known as the “Grit and Grind” era. He led Memphis to several playoff appearances and played a key role in reaching the 2013 Western Conference Finals—the franchise’s deepest postseason run. Gasol’s individual achievements include being named NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2013, earning three NBA All-Star selections, and receiving multiple All-NBA Team honors.

After more than ten years with Memphis, Gasol joined the Toronto Raptors and contributed to their 2019 NBA Championship win before finishing his career with the Los Angeles Lakers. Over his NBA tenure, he recorded 12,514 points, 6,604 rebounds, and 2,996 assists. Internationally, Gasol also had a decorated career with Spain’s national team.

Gasol moved from Barcelona to Germantown in 2001 when his brother Pau played for Memphis. He attended Lausanne Collegiate School and was named Tennessee’s Division 2 Mr. Basketball in 2003.

Willis said about Gasol’s broader influence: “Marc Gasol’s influence in Memphis extended far beyond the court. He embraced the city, represented the franchise with class, and helped elevate the Memphis Grizzlies into one of the most respected teams in the league. His induction celebrates both his outstanding career and his lasting connection to Tennessee.”

Gasol joins other announced inductees including Monica Abbott and Jennifer Azzi as part of this year’s class. The full list will be revealed over coming weeks. The induction ceremony is scheduled for July 11 at Omni Nashville Downtown.
