House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green has explained his decision to deny the use of taxpayer funds for a trip by House Homeland Democrats to visit Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia in El Salvador. The individual in question is described as a likely human trafficker and accused domestic abuser.
Chairman Green expressed concerns over Democrats’ intentions, stating they are using this case for media attention and to promote an “open-borders agenda.” He criticized Democrats’ support for Abrego Garcia, highlighting allegations against him, including domestic abuse and human trafficking.
Abrego Garcia was ordered removed from the United States by a federal judge in 2019 but returned to El Salvador earlier this year. The Trump administration has argued that his MS-13 gang membership should disqualify him from immigration status.
Democrats have faced criticism from Chairman Green, who questions their motives and suggests their actions reflect contempt for taxpayers. He emphasized the need to fund President Trump’s border security measures and enforce immigration laws.
“Americans do not want known gang members walking free in their communities,” Green stated, stressing the importance of supporting law enforcement initiatives through legislation like H.R. 2.
The debate continues as some Democratic representatives argue that Abrego Garcia’s removal was unconstitutional. However, Chairman Green remains focused on prioritizing security and enforcement policies within his committee responsibilities.
