Rep. Mark Green has reintroduced the Protecting Gold Star Spouses Act in the 119th Congress, a move aimed at safeguarding benefits for Gold Star Families even amidst government shutdowns.

The bill addresses the treatment of servicemembers and their families, ensuring that Gold Star Spouses and Children continue to receive the benefits they are entitled to. Green stressed the importance of this commitment, stating, “Our nation should be a shining example of how to treat our servicemembers and their families. It’s our duty and our honor to take care of America’s Gold Star spouses and families.”

The legislation also targets the needs of Coast Guard Gold Star Spouses, guaranteeing them stipends from the Survivor Benefits Plan (SBP) during appropriations lapses. Green emphasized the role of the Coast Guard, noting, “Members of the Coast Guard do some of the most dangerous work in the Armed Forces.”

Rep. Green’s legislative initiative ensures that the sacrifices of military families are acknowledged and that these families are not left without crucial support in times of government financial impasses.

The Protecting Gold Star Spouses Act has been brought forward in previous sessions of Congress, highlighting its ongoing relevance and the persistent efforts to secure these benefits. Additional coverage and information about the bill can be found in the Washington Examiner and ClarksvilleNow.
