Representative Rebecca Alexander, a Tennessee state legislator, shared several updates on social media regarding her recent legislative efforts and public safety reminders.

On May 22, 2026, Alexander expressed her support for legislation aimed at protecting utility workers’ families. She stated, “This year, I was proud to support the Chance Carlton Act. This bill will create a safety net for the families of Tennessee’s linemen, who bravely put themselves in harm’s way to keep the rest of us safe.”

Later that day, she highlighted her involvement in foster care advocacy during National Foster Care Month. In a post dated May 22, 2026, Alexander wrote, “Foster care is a sacred calling. I helped pass HB1359 last year to protect foster children’s rights and dignity. We honor those families serving our most vulnerable during National Foster Care Month.”

On May 23, 2026, Representative Alexander issued a public safety advisory ahead of Memorial Day weekend: “If you plan to spend Memorial Day weekend on Boone Lake or another nearby, exercise caution! Tennessee is especially dry for this time of year, which means shallow water and exposed rocks in places you wouldn’t expect. Enjoy your weekend, but remember, safety first!”

The Chance Carlton Act referenced by Alexander aims to provide additional protections and financial security for the families of utility line workers in Tennessee—an occupation considered hazardous due to frequent exposure to dangerous conditions while maintaining electrical infrastructure.

House Bill 1359 (HB1359), mentioned in her second post, was passed with the intent to safeguard the rights and dignity of children within Tennessee’s foster care system. The bill addresses standards for treatment and oversight intended to improve outcomes for children placed in foster homes.

Tennessee has experienced drier than average weather patterns leading into Memorial Day weekend in 2026. These conditions have increased risks associated with outdoor recreation near lakes and rivers due to lower water levels and newly exposed hazards.
