Senator Marsha Blackburn, a Republican representing Tennessee, made several statements on her Twitter account on July 28, 2025, addressing issues ranging from the National Education Association’s (NEA) handling of Holocaust references to the Senate confirmation process.
In her first post, Blackburn accused the NEA of antisemitism. She stated on July 28, 2025: “The National Education Association erased the word ‘Jewish’ when referencing the Holocaust in their handbook. After being caught red-handed, they erased the handbook from their website. This blatant antisemitism is why we need to pass my NEA Charter Repeal Act.” The NEA is one of the largest labor unions in the United States and represents public school teachers and other support personnel.
Later that day, Blackburn expressed her support for Bill White’s nomination as Ambassador to Belgium. On July 28, 2025, she wrote: “It will be an absolute pleasure to vote and confirm @BillWhiteUSA as Ambassador to Belgium. There is no better person for the job!”
In a subsequent tweet on July 28, 2025, Blackburn criticized Democratic senators regarding presidential appointments: “Democrats are obstructing the confirmation process for President Trump’s nominees out of spite—putting their politics ahead of the American people and their interests.” The Senate holds constitutional authority to confirm or reject presidential nominees for key government positions.
The NEA has previously faced scrutiny over its educational materials and political positions. Debates about Senate confirmation processes have also intensified in recent years amid heightened partisanship.
