Senator Marsha Blackburn, representing Tennessee, used her social media platform on October 8, 2025, to raise concerns about actions taken by telecommunications companies and the ongoing government shutdown.
In her first post of the day, Blackburn questioned the response of major telecom companies regarding a recent federal investigation. On October 8, she stated, “We need to know why @ATT and @Verizon did not challenge the subpoena for the phone records of 8 United States Senators when the Biden FBI spied on us during an anti-Trump probe. There needs to be a reckoning for this.”
Later that day, Blackburn addressed ongoing budget negotiations in Congress. She wrote on October 8, “65% of Americans agree that we should pass a clean government funding bill to keep the government open. Despite this, Democrats are rejecting the will of the American people by holding out to fund healthcare for illegal immigrants.”
In a third post on October 8, Blackburn discussed the effects of the federal shutdown on air travel in Nashville. She posted, “It’s Day 8 of the Schumer Shutdown, which forced @Fly_Nashville to reduce flights because of staffing shortages. Democrats’ political stunt is making life harder for American families, and they need to stop holding government funding hostage to appease their far-left base.”
Blackburn’s remarks reference ongoing tensions in Congress over government spending bills and the effects of a federal shutdown. Her comments also follow recent reports of subpoenas issued for the phone records of several senators as part of a Department of Justice investigation. The term “Schumer Shutdown” refers to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and is used by some Republican lawmakers to attribute responsibility for the ongoing budget impasse.
