United States Senator Bill Hagerty appeared on Fox Business’s “Mornings With Maria” to discuss several key issues, including the budget reconciliation package, negotiations with Iran under President Donald Trump, and the GENIUS Act. As a member of multiple Senate committees and a former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Hagerty shared his insights on these topics.
Regarding the budget reconciliation package, Hagerty expressed support for efforts to reduce debt and deficit but highlighted elements that are often overlooked in calculations. He mentioned the impact of deregulatory measures and tariff reconciliations as factors that could incentivize capital investment. “At a broad and principle level, the Senate is going to continue to look at means to actually reduce the deficit,” he stated.
Hagerty emphasized the urgency of passing the budget reconciliation package, noting that companies are holding off on capital investments until there is more certainty. He urged for quick action: “We got to move quickly on that.”
On Trump’s negotiations with Iran, Hagerty supported maintaining maximum pressure on Iran to prevent nuclear weapon development. He reflected on past administrations’ approaches and expressed hope for fruitful negotiations: “This is going to be a tough set of negotiations.”
Discussing Trump’s Middle East trip, Hagerty remarked on its success in strengthening economic ties which he believes equate to national security: “It’s going to make our security interest aligned.”
Finally, addressing the GENIUS Act, Hagerty spoke about modernizing payment systems using new technology while ensuring regulatory clarity. He noted this would extend dollar dominance globally and stimulate demand for U.S. treasuries: “This is simply taking our payment system into the 21st century.”
Hagerty concluded by expressing optimism about bipartisan support for this legislation aimed at maintaining America’s leadership in innovation.
