Senator Marsha Blackburn, a Republican representing Tennessee, addressed multiple legislative and law enforcement issues in a series of tweets on July 18, 2025.
In her first tweet posted at 15:10 UTC, Blackburn highlighted an increase in assaults on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers since January. She stated, “Assaults on ICE officers have increased by 830% since January.
We must hold Democrats accountable for putting law enforcement in harm’s way. My bill would make it illegal to publicly release their names with the intent to obstruct immigration enforcement as they face threats”.
Later that day, at 17:04 UTC, Blackburn expressed condolences following an incident involving law enforcement personnel in California. She wrote, “Our hearts are with law enforcement involved in the tragedy at the LA County Sheriff’s Department and their families.”
At 18:04 UTC, Senator Blackburn criticized the National Education Association (NEA), claiming that it prioritizes politics over students. She said, “For years, @NEAToday has put politics over students in favor of a woke agenda.
@RepMarkHarrisNC and I introduced a bill to revoke their federal charter to make it clear we must not reward this partisan organization with the Senate or House’s blessing.” In this tweet she also referenced Rep. Mark Harris of North Carolina as her co-sponsor.
The NEA is one of the largest labor unions representing educators across the United States and holds a federal charter granted by Congress. Congressional charters are formal statements recognizing organizations for specific purposes but do not entail ongoing oversight or funding.
Senator Blackburn has been vocal about border security and education policy during her tenure in Congress.
