Senator Paul Bailey announced on Apr. 10 that the Tennessee Senate is advancing several legislative measures as the session draws to a close.
The update matters to residents of Senate District 15 and across Tennessee, as lawmakers focus on laws impacting public safety, religious freedom, child protection, healthcare standards, and local economies.
Bailey said the Senate passed legislation to ensure law enforcement officers are given due process when accused of misconduct. He explained this will provide a clearer process for officers to respond to allegations before facing significant consequences. Additionally, new legislation aims to protect churches and places of worship from disruption, which Bailey said reinforces Tennesseans’ ability to practice their faith without interference.
Efforts are also underway to protect children in Tennessee. According to Bailey, one measure invests in prevention efforts against youth vaping through education initiatives. Another bill establishes safety standards for artificial intelligence companies with a focus on protecting children and requiring responses when harm occurs.
Bailey reported that he sponsored legislation establishing a certification process for IVF clinics in Tennessee. He said this would ensure clinics meet professional standards and maintain proper safety protocols for families seeking care.
Other measures highlighted by Bailey include support for live music venues by ensuring ticket resellers contribute back to venues and communities; reducing costs and delays associated with certain annexations; increasing accountability for hit-and-run accidents resulting in death; ensuring continuous insurance coverage for delivery drivers; and expanding opportunities for fireworks sales ahead of America’s 250th anniversary.
Bailey concluded his update by thanking constituents: “As always, thank you for the opportunity to serve.” He added that work continues quickly as lawmakers aim to finalize these initiatives before session ends.
