Senator Paul Bailey released an update on April 3 outlining recent legislative activity in Tennessee Senate District 15. The update covers progress on several bills aimed at protecting taxpayers, improving public safety, and reducing government regulations.
Bailey said the legislation is intended to reflect the values of Tennesseans while ensuring responsible use of public funds and increasing accountability within state government.
Among the measures highlighted, Bailey said the Senate passed a bill to prevent taxpayer dollars from being used for gender reassignment procedures. He said this action ensures that public funds are managed responsibly. Another piece of legislation aims to strengthen enforcement against illegal commercial drivers and employers who hire them, which Bailey said will help keep roads safer by ensuring proper licensing requirements are met.
The senator also reported that lawmakers advanced a bill targeting drink spiking in public settings. “This is a commonsense step to protect individuals and ensure there are real consequences for those who engage in this dangerous behavior,” Bailey said.
Additionally, he announced passage of the Regulatory Freedom Act of 2026. According to Bailey, this law increases oversight of state agencies and requires more careful review of rules with the goal of protecting small businesses, encouraging growth, and keeping government accountable.
Bailey concluded his message by inviting groups interested in visiting the Capitol to contact his office and wished constituents a safe Easter weekend.
