Karen Booker/Women's Basketball Head Coach | Trevecca Nazarene University
The Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced its awards for the 2022-23 season and Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball head coach Karen Booker is the 2023 Great Midwest Coach of the Year.
On June 2, 2022 Coach Booker was named the new head coach of the Trojan program and began changing the direction of the program that own five games last season. The team was picked to finish 12th in the 13-team Great Midwest, but in her first season, Booker had the team in the Great Midwest Semifinals with a 20-8 record, quadrupling the win total of last season. They went 15-5 in league play. The result of this season's success is a birth in the 2023 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Postseason tournament and the No. 3 seed. The Trojans won their quarterfinals matchup against Walsh University on Tuesday advancing them to the 2023 Great Midwest Semifinals against Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday night.
2022-23 SEASON NOTES
Under Coach Booker, the team produced a 6-6 pre-Christmas record. The six early wins matched or exceeded the win total in each of the last two seasons. When they returned from the Christmas break, the Trojans rolled off seven consecutive wins and after a loss broke the streak, they rolled off five more consecutive W's. The seven-game winning streak following Christmas break is the longest for a TNU squad since the 2014-2015 team won ten (10) consecutive games to close the regular season.
HOME SWEET HOME
Trevecca finished the regular season undefeated at home, winning all 13 regular season home games at Trojan Fieldhouse. The Trojans made it 14-0 at home this season with a 67-61 win over Walsh in the Great Midwest Quarterfinals.
The 14 consecutive home wins this season is the most in the NCAA era, surpassing the 2012-13 team who won 11 straight at home.
In comparison, the Trojans were 2-12 at home last season and the previous best home record in the Div. II era is a 12-2 home mark in the 2012-13 season.
The last Trojan team to go undefeated at home is the 2006-2007 team that also went 14-0 at Trojan Fieldhouse and 27-7 overall.
CONFERENCE WINNING
The 15 conference wins are the most in the NCAA Div. II era which surpassed the 2013-14 and 2014-15 teams that both went 14-2 in league play.
