United States Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN), a member of the Senate Appropriations and Banking Committees and former Tennessee Commissioner of Economic and Community Development, will commence his fourth-annual Economic Development tour across Tennessee this week.
The tour aims to provide Hagerty with opportunities to meet with businesses—large and small—entrepreneurs, workers, and farmers to discuss the economy, job creation, and the impact of federal policies.
“I came to the Senate four years ago to be an advocate for hardworking Tennesseans in Washington,” said Senator Hagerty. “As Tennessee’s former Commissioner of Economic Development, I have seen firsthand the grit and ingenuity of our workforce that has bolstered the Volunteer State’s economy and job creation. Unfortunately, harmful policies coming out of Washington from the Biden-Harris Administration have made life much harder for Tennesseans over the last four years, from record-high inflation to crushing regulations. I’m committed to fighting for our children and grandchildren’s future by ensuring that burdensome red tape does not stifle success and choke off the opportunity to pursue the American Dream in Tennessee. I look forward to another tour around the state listening to our workforce’s concerns and ideas and gaining invaluable insight that I will take with me back to Washington.”
Hagerty began his business career with Boston Consulting Group before becoming a venture capital and private equity investor. He has served as an executive and board member for various companies listed on NYSE and NASDAQ. From 2011 to 2014, he was a member of Governor Bill Haslam’s (R-TN) Cabinet as Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. During his tenure, he reorganized the department by eliminating over 40 percent of positions, saving millions in taxpayer dollars while fostering economic growth that led Tennessee from above-average unemployment rates to being named State of the Year for Economic Development twice consecutively.
Details regarding Hagerty's public appearances will be announced ahead of time.
