United States Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, appeared on Fox Business's "Varney & Co" to discuss several issues, including the Biden-Harris Administration's stance on Iran, recent attacks involving Hezbollah, and an FBI report indicating Iranian hacking of the Trump campaign.
During his appearance, Hagerty criticized Democrats for their condemnation of Israeli actions. "It’s inexplicable, except for what you pointed out in the monologue, Stuart. It has to do with Michigan. It has to do with domestic politics. It has to do with them appeasing the far-radical left that are Hamas and Hezbollah supporters in their own party," Hagerty stated. He emphasized the need for U.S. support for Israel: "We should be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our strongest ally in the Middle East instead of launching this criticism."
Hagerty also addressed ongoing attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon involving explosive devices. "Israel’s demonstrated that they’re in the supply chains of Hezbollah and the Iranians," he noted. He highlighted Israel's actions as a significant deterrent effect against terrorist activities: "If they can take out the Hamas leader in Tehran, I think they’re showing them that they can get to them."
Furthermore, Hagerty commented on an FBI report revealing Iranian hacking efforts targeting Donald Trump's campaign: "Well, it’s very obvious who the Iranians would prefer to see in office, and that’s Kamala Harris." He argued that President Trump's maximum pressure campaign had significantly curtailed Iran's ability to fund terrorism and disrupted its operations in the Middle East.
The interview underscores ongoing tensions between U.S. political factions regarding foreign policy towards Iran and support for Israel.
