DuJuan Butler, a 33-year-old former postal carrier from Antioch, Tennessee, has been indicted by a federal grand jury. The charges against him include unlawfully detaining and delaying mail, as announced by United States Attorney Henry C. Leventis for the Middle District of Tennessee.

The incident in question occurred on August 3, 2024. Butler was reportedly seen throwing baskets of mail into dumpsters behind a strip mall while driving a U.S. Postal Service truck in Antioch. A woman who witnessed the act filmed it and shared the video on TikTok, where it quickly went viral with millions of views. Other employees of the Postal Service later managed to retrieve the discarded mail from the dumpsters.

If found guilty, Butler could face up to five years in federal prison and be fined up to $250,000.

The case is under investigation by the United States Postal Service's Office of Inspector General. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Goldin is handling the prosecution.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation and that Butler is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
