United States Senator Bill Hagerty appeared on Fox Business's Varney & Co. to discuss several pressing issues, including the alleged debanking of conservatives, his support for Pete Hegseth, and concerns over China's influence on the Panama Canal.

During the segment, Hagerty addressed the topic of banks allegedly refusing services to conservative individuals and organizations. He stated, “I certainly side with President Trump on this one because I’ve seen it myself." He expressed concern over regulatory practices that may lead to such actions without formal warnings. Hagerty emphasized the need for change in banking oversight and mentioned that with Republican control of the Senate Banking Committee, there would be efforts to address these issues.

Hagerty also spoke about his support for Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense. He described Hegseth as "patriotic," "bright," and "energetic," adding that he believes Hegseth will focus on enhancing military effectiveness rather than cultural issues. “Pete has been clear: he’s going to be focused on lethality and competence, not on pronouns,” said Hagerty.

The discussion also touched upon strategic concerns regarding the Panama Canal. Hagerty highlighted China’s involvement in operations at both ends of the canal, suggesting it was an unforeseen consequence of past decisions regarding its control. Reflecting on his experience negotiating trade agreements during his tenure as U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Hagerty stressed taking such strategic assets seriously.
