Lipscomb Women’s Golf is in third place after the first round of the ASUN Championship at Dothan Country Club, according to an April 17 update. The team posted a score of 292 (+4) over the opening 18 holes, trailing Florida Gulf Coast University by three strokes and North Florida by fourteen strokes.
The performance matters as it sets the stage for the remaining rounds of the championship, with individual and team standings still in play. Christina Surcey led Lipscomb with a strong round, finishing fourth individually. After starting with a bogey on her first hole, Surcey played steadily through the front nine and made several birdies on the back nine to finish with a score of 71 (-1). She recorded four birdies and three bogeys across her round.
Casey Yu followed closely behind Surcey, posting an even-par score of 72 to sit in fifth place overall. Yu had consistent play throughout her round despite some challenges on holes ten and twelve but recovered well with two late birdies.
Ava Bankston contributed a solid effort for Lipscomb as well, ending her day at one-over-par (73) and holding twelfth place. Savannah Howell finished at four-over-par (76), while Katya Tibbetts completed her round at five-over-par (77).
Lipscomb led all teams in pars during the first round with sixty-three total and was second-best among competitors on Par-5 holes at five-under par. The Bisons are scheduled to resume play tomorrow morning beginning at 8:50 a.m., starting with Tibbetts teeing off first.
The next rounds will determine if Lipscomb can close the gap on their rivals as they continue competing for top honors in this year’s ASUN Championship.
