The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame announced on May 13 the recipients of its 2026 Achievement Awards, with Candice Storey Lee, Vice Chancellor for Athletics and University Affairs and Athletic Director at Vanderbilt University, named as the Tennessean of the Year. The awards recognize a diverse group from across Tennessee’s sports community, including national champions, professional athletes, and record-setting collegiate programs. Honorees will be celebrated at the annual banquet on July 11 at the Omni Nashville Downtown.
Harold Graeter, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, said: “This year’s Achievement Award honorees reflect the very best of Tennessee’s rich sports tradition — from legends who’ve inspired generations to rising stars making their mark on the national stage. We are proud to honor these individuals and teams whose dedication, excellence, and impact represent what the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame stands for.”
Candice Storey Lee was recognized for her leadership during a period marked by significant achievements in Vanderbilt athletics. In the past academic year, Vanderbilt Football achieved a 10–3 record and national ranking; men’s basketball finished with a top-20 ranking; and women’s basketball advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen.
Other awardees include Rick Insell (Pat Summitt Lifetime Achievement Award), Dylan and Carter Nutt (David Williams Significant Historical Achievement Award), Jeffery Simmons (Professional Athlete of the Year), Nashville SC (Professional Team of the Year), Vanderbilt Women’s Basketball (Female Amateur Team), Freed-Hardeman Lions men’s basketball (Male Amateur Team), Karlyn Pickens and Maya Johnson (Female Amateur Athletes), and Diego Pavia (Male Amateur Athlete).
The Hall was established in 1966 to honor those who have made an impact on Tennessee sports history. It also aims to educate youth about healthy habits through sport achievements. The event is sponsored by organizations such as the Tennessee Lottery Corporation.
