Tennessee State University will host Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) on Saturday in its final regular-season home game, which will also serve as Senior Day at the Gentry Center. The Tigers are currently tied for first place in the Ohio Valley Conference standings with Southeast Missouri and Morehead State.
The team recently secured a win over Lindenwood, while SIUE comes into the matchup after a loss to Tennessee Tech. SIUE has moved into position for an opening-round appearance in the OVC Tournament.
Tennessee State has an 18-9 overall record and is 12-5 in conference play. SIUE stands at 17-11 overall and 10-7 in conference games. The game is scheduled for Saturday, February 21 at 1:00 PM in Nashville and will be broadcast on ESPNU and ESPN+.
Reflecting on past events, it was noted that the last time Tennessee State advanced to the NCAA Tournament was during another significant ice storm in Nashville, back in 1994. The recent ice storm left many residents without power and caused damage throughout neighborhoods across Nashville.
In their previous meeting this season, SIUE defeated Tennessee State 74-66. Dante Harris scored 19 points, Travis Harper II added 17 points, Aaron Nkrumah contributed 13 points, and Antoine Lorick III recorded 10 rebounds for TSU.
During their latest victory against Lindenwood, Tennessee State demonstrated strong defensive play by committing only five team fouls in the second half and forcing eight turnovers during that period. The team also recorded twelve assists and dominated rebounding with forty-two total boards—nineteen of those coming on offense. Jalen Pitre led with thirteen rebounds while both Travis Harper II and Carlous Williams scored seventeen points each. Dante Harris led all scorers with twenty-one points. TSU capitalized on fast-break opportunities with nineteen points and made twenty-two free throws out of thirty-one attempts. They also converted thirty-one points off turnovers en route to scoring eighty-nine total points on thirty-one-of-seventy-one shooting from the field.
Tennessee State leads the all-time series against SIUE fourteen games to ten.
