Tennessee State men’s basketball announced on May 5 the signing of guard Ajayi Simmons, according to head coach Nolan Smith.
The addition of Simmons brings new talent to the team following his two seasons at North Idaho College. This move is significant as it aims to strengthen the Tigers’ roster ahead of upcoming competitions.
Simmons played in 58 games with 22 starts during his time at North Idaho College, accumulating a total of 492 points and 263 rebounds. He averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, shooting 45 percent from the field and over 36 percent from three-point range.
In the most recent season, Simmons appeared in 28 games with 17 starts, averaging career-highs of 11.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in nearly 28 minutes on the court. He also contributed with assists, steals, blocks, and recorded ten double-figure scoring games—including a season-high performance of 25 points against Central Arizona and multiple games surpassing twenty points late in the season.
As a freshman during the previous year, Simmons played in all thirty contests for North Idaho College. He averaged nearly six points per game while shooting just under forty-six percent from the field and above forty percent from beyond the arc.
The signing reflects Tennessee State’s continued efforts to bolster its men’s basketball program with experienced players who have demonstrated consistent performance at their previous institutions.
