Tennessee State men’s track and field reported on May 3 a series of strong performances across sprint, middle-distance, and distance events during recent competition.
The results matter as they reflect the team’s continued progress in various disciplines ahead of the upcoming championship season. The event featured regional programs and conference contenders, providing a competitive environment for Tennessee State athletes to test their abilities.
Freshman Jayden Guy advanced through the 100-meter preliminaries with a time of 10.85 seconds and achieved a personal best of 21.92 seconds in the 200 meters. Junior Damon Jackson ran times of 10.92 seconds in the 100 meters and finished the 200 meters in 22.74 seconds. Freshman Donte Barnes clocked an 11.06-second finish in the 100 meters, while freshman Jamil Tucker recorded an 11.36-second performance during preliminaries.
Senior Caleb Joshway finished sixth overall in the invitational section of the 100 meters with a time of 10.63 seconds after qualifying at 10.61 seconds earlier in prelims.
In other sprint events, junior Joshua McClendon posted a time of 21.92 seconds in the 200 meters before returning to lead Tennessee State with a seventh-place finish (47.78) in the competitive quarter-mile (400-meter) race.
Middle-distance efforts were highlighted by senior Robert Hooper’s fourth-place result (1:51.39) and sophomore Devin Jones’ seventh-place finish (1:51.77) over two laps (800 meters). Sophomore Delton White ran an additional middle-distance event at that meet with a time of 1:57.42; sophomore Landon Thrasher completed his race at that distance as well.
Thrasher also competed for Tennessee State in longer distances, finishing with a time of 4:26.45 over one mile (1500 meters).
The team now shifts its focus toward postseason competition as performances continue trending upward heading into championship season.
