Tennessee State University’s softball team finished its 2026 season on May 2 after losing both games of a doubleheader against Eastern Illinois at Williams Field in Charleston, Illinois. The Tigers ended the year with an overall record of 2-38 and a conference record of 2-25 in Ohio Valley Conference play.

The games marked the conclusion of a challenging season for Tennessee State. In the first game, Eastern Illinois secured a 15-0 win in five innings, taking control early with a two-run home run and adding six runs across the first two frames. A grand slam in the third inning extended their lead further. Tennessee State managed three hits, including two from Hailey Hunt and one from Dani James, while avoiding defensive errors. Miriam Gordon took the loss as pitcher for Tennessee State.

In game two, Eastern Illinois again scored early and pulled away with six runs in the third inning to win 13-0 in five innings. Alexis Woods and Noelani Wilkerson each recorded hits for Tennessee State, which totaled three hits during the contest. Tianna Salcido was charged with the loss as pitcher.

Despite facing strong competition throughout their schedule, Tennessee State’s young roster gained experience during what was described as a year of growth and perseverance for the program. The team highlighted individual milestones and development across its lineup while competing against championship-level opponents within their conference.

Looking ahead, Tennessee State plans to focus on offseason development as it prepares for next year’s campaign.
