Tennessee State softball collected 11 hits but lost 7-3 to Middle Tennessee at Blue Raider Softball Field, according to an April 15 report.

The game saw Tennessee State take an early lead, scoring runs in the first two innings. Jace Jackson hit an RBI single in the opening frame, bringing home JaKeyla McDaniel for a 1-0 advantage. In the second inning, Jasmine Blackburn singled and drove in Mariyah Brown to make it 2-0.

Chelsi Ervin started as pitcher for Tennessee State and kept Middle Tennessee scoreless through two innings with three strikeouts. However, Middle Tennessee answered back with a sacrifice fly in the third inning and then scored four more runs across the fourth and fifth innings. A two-RBI single gave them their first lead in the fourth, followed by a two-run home run in the fifth that extended their margin.

Despite trailing, Tennessee State continued its offensive effort. The team finished with double-digit hits; McDaniel, Blackburn, Alexis Woods and Brown each had multiple hits. Kailyn Jean-Baptiste added a solo home run in the sixth inning for Tennessee State’s final run of the night.

Kristian Holder and Miriam Gordon pitched in relief for Tennessee State, with Gordon taking the loss on record.

Looking ahead, Tennessee State will return home for a three-game series against Western Illinois from April 18–19 at Tiger Field.
